This beautiful art object would look good in any museum. It comes complete with it's little acrylic stand. Play with this fantastic puzzle which doubles as an amazing art object. This is a new work designed for the Aura Collection by the graphic designer Aoi Huber. It is made of 20 pieces of layered acrylic.

Recognized as one of America’s most innovative modern artists, Alexander Calder (1898–1976) redefined sculpture through his iconic mobiles, stabiles, and the popular Cirque Calder. Calder’s work in metal jewelry, however, is one form of his artistic output that is less known. Throughout his life, the artist produced more than 1,800 jewelry works of art, each made entirely by hand. This is the first exhibition devoted exclusively to his unique body of jewelry work, and consists of approximately one hundred objects, including necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings, and tiaras. Whether you're looking for a sculptural piece or jewelry storage and display, this Silver Manzanite Tree is stunning. What a fabulous addition to any decor.

Paul Evans work is a mix of mid-century furniture design and mixed-metal sculpture in bronze, silver and gold. A Pennsylvanian, Evans studied sculpture, metal work, silver and gold smithing at several institutes, including the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He began making metal furniture and exhibited in a group show in 1957 at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York. In 1964 Evans became the designer of furniture manufacturer Directional. With Directional, Paul Evans introduced his very collectible editions such as the Argent series, Sculpted Bronze, and the highly popular Cityscape collection. Most Paul Evans pieces were signed, and all of the custom items bear a signature and a date. Paul Evans furniture has been bringing record breaking prices at antique shows and auctions across the U.S. and Europe. (1931-1987)

Eggs are popular at this time of year, and Franc Grom creates and sells just about the best. He has elevated the egg to an art form.

In contrast with the popular trend toward minimalist high-tech gadgets, a feature exemplified by Apple, this iPod-Island Hub is spacially demanding. The face of the hub features the quote, "The music was new black polished chrome and it came over the summer like liquid night," from Turkish Bazaar, a song by Emmanuel Tops, that loops on the accompanying iPod. This one-of-a-kind piece includes one Apple iPod Nano and a JBL sound station with remote control. It goes on the auction block at Wright in Chicago on March 30, 2008. Designed by Ingo Strobel and Katja Hiendmayer

Little Circus Designs has some wonderfully fun prints by artist Madeleine Stamer. They would look great in a child's space or a grownup's space.

Charles and Ray Eames were master of the interior "collage" with numerous objects brought back from their extensive travels. The figure of a black wooden bird - evidently one of their most prized objects of American folk art - has stood in the center of their living room for over fifty years. It appeared in many Eames photos including the very famous one above. Based on the original artifact and in cooperation with the Eames family, Vitra is now producing the first series of this figure. The Eames house bird is made from solid Alder with a black lacquer finish and steel wire legs.

Chatherine Chandler is a metalsmith and designer with a fabulous eye for form and line. Her work uses rich metals and patinas and is quite sublime. Check out more at her online store.

Anyone who knows my jewelry designs knows I love circles. That probably has something to do with my love of Tracy Melton's Tree Rings paintings. Tracy has perfected the art of circle and color. These paintings are so affordable at under ten dollars that you can buy a bunch and place them on one wall to make a larger piece. A grid is great or you can step out of the box and randomly scatter them on your wall. Take a look at his site to see more amazing color combinations.

From the folks that have given us modern wall applications come a new line, Wallter Mobiles. They come in a variety of colors and match some of the wall application designs. They also give you options on how to hang them. By sliding the shapes up and down the mobile string you can create your own look and height for your mobile. Clever.

Shopping with the big boys (and girls) for classic modern means shopping at auction houses where only the fortunate can afford to go. Sometimes nice pieces will go for prices that the rest of us can afford if we think of it as a true investment. But whether you can buy or not, looking through the upcoming or past auctions is a treat. You can discover designers and pieces you wouldn't find otherwise and enjoy wonderful examples of designer you already know and love. Here are a few interesting finds at Rago Art and Action Center's last modern sale in November.

Stunning photography from Tony Masso of point 4 photography. More information on where to see this work to come.
