I first saw an add for m-dc in Dwell and was taken with the concept right away. While the art they offer is not a painted canvas it is a high resolution digital thermal print on canvas. Yes they are highly reproduceable but the company limits the amount of production of each piece. The work is minimalist, expressionistic and in some cases photographic. It smashes right through the concept of high art and make amazing visual images more affordable for the masses. I'm all for it. Is it art, is it design? It's both and I would be happy to hang many of the pieces in my home.
