Knoll

A gentleman wandered into the gallery where I work today inquiring about sculpture and the Nakashima furniture we sell and after a long conversation about design he introduced himself as a representative from Knoll Furniture. I swooned, explaining to him that I grew up with many stunning Knoll pieces in my childhood home and he easily guessed my father was an architect. Eames House Bird

Charles and Ray Eames were master of the interior "collage" with numerous objects brought back from their extensive travels. The figure of a black wooden bird - evidently one of their most prized objects of American folk art - has stood in the center of their living room for over fifty years. Something Old, Something New

Just a little bit of history repeating itself. The Wing Lounge Chair from LYX, in white, is designed by Micheal Malmborg and is even referred to as a reincarnation of the classic wing chair. I assume they are referring to the Eames Lounge Chair produced by Herman Miller. But the updated version is made with memory foam and wraps around the body for what is probably a very comfortable sit. Which version? It's up to you.

Vintage modern furniture is not hard to find but it's getting easier to find like minded reproductions of older pieces, and if you're on a budget you might opt for the repros. Retro Home (bottom 5 images) offers great items as does West Elm (top 5 images).
